It’s Amazon Prime Day – Here are The Best Categories for Guys to Focus On

Today is Amazon Prime day, which means there are a ton of sales on damn near everything on Amazon.

But not all sales are created equal, and not all deals are worth your attention.

To help you focus your efforts and find the best deals on men’s style and grooming products, below I’ll break down the best categories to peruse to score a (great) deal on (pretty good) stuff.

Oh! And one more thing.

Keep in mind that most Prime Day deals require you to have Amazon Prime, if you don’t already.

So if you’ve been on the fence about signing up, today might be the one day of the year where it’s really worth it.

Actually, scratch that. Signing up for the free shipping service also gives you access to their streaming platform, where you can watch The Boys. And honestly, that show alone is worth the 15 bucks per month — ain’t it, you right c*nt?

(I swear that was a reference to the show! I wouldn’t just drop a hard-C like that for no reason. I may be an Irreverent Gent, not an unnecessarily vulgar one.)

OK, enough jibber jabber. On to the picks!

Big-Ticket Items

This isn’t really a style/fashion category (at least, it’s not strictly a style/fashion category), so let’s get it out of the way first.

Some of the best deals on Prime Day tend to come from the highest-priced items, for two reasons.

First, while Amazon is forever running smaller sales designed to hook you in, bigger-ticket items don’t go on sale that often, so this is one are where Prime Day really matters.

And second, even a small discount off of a big price tag can still add up to big savings in absolute terms.

Here are a few categories to target for rare, and fairly substantial, savings.

Shavers & Grooming Tech

As a men’s style blog we tend to cover grooming tools pretty extensively, and if there’s one thing we’ve learned over the years, it’s this:

Men’s shavers are f*cking expensive.

The best models from brands like Panasonic, Braun and Philips Norelco come with a base price of $300 or more, which is a sh*t ton of money to spend on a single grooming product.

So sales like Prime Day are a real boon, because a lot of the best foil and rotary shavers go on sale for pretty significant discounts, making this a great time to strike.

Watches

I’m kind of an outlier in the world of men’s fashion influencers, partly because referring to myself as a “men’s fashion influencer” makes me want to puke, and partly because I really don’t fetishize watches the way some guys do.

Don’t get me wrong: I love a good-looking timepiece, and have written quite a bit about them.

But while some guys love to go deep into all aspects of a watch’s construction, design and mechanics, I have to admit that my interests are much more aesthetic.

Do I want a watch that’s well made and will hold up over the long haul? Of course. But I also want it to look great and pair well with my modern-classic wardrobe.

While you won’t find many Rolexes or Patek Phillippes on Amazon (at least, not many real ones), the good news is that they carrry a lot of watch’s in my wheelhouse.

And Prime Day is a great opportunity to get models from well regarded mid-tier brands like Casio and Bulova at highly discounted prices.

Oh! And come to think of it…

You Can Look For Other Accessories, Too

Watches tend to come with bigger price points, so they’re arguably the most valuable accessory to focus on.

But it’s worth noting that Amazon carries a pretty wide selection of other men’s accessories, including everything from leather bags to designer sunglasses, so it’s probably worth checking out their main accessories page as well.

Amazon’s In-House Brands

Now’s a great time to grab shorts and other summer gear from Amazon’s in-house “Essentials” line

Last year when Amazon cut a number of their in-house brands, I poured one out for Goodthreads, their low-cost men’s clothing line that made solid, if not exactly earth-shattering, men’s staple pieces at decent prices.

Fortuantely, all was not lost. Amazon retained their core Amazon Essentials brand, and relabelled a lot of the remaining Goodthreads inventory under that label, so it’s still available on the website—and heavily discounted for Prime Day.

All of Amazon’s stuff tends to fall in the “cheap and cheerful,” category.

But I have a number of sweaters from them and find the quality is surprisingly good, especially compared to the price, and especially compared to the discounted price on Prime Day.

So this could be a good opportunity to stock up on everything from t-shirts to winter jackets.

My recommendation? Nab some summer stuff while it’s on sale.

You’ve still got at least two months to wear it this year (and longer if you’re in the South), and then you can stash it away for next year and not have to stock up in spring, when prices are higher.
