Speaking as someone who’s 6’2″ and 260 (on a good day), trust me when I say I understand how important it is to find the best recliners for big men.

There are few better feelings than settling into a good recliner after a long, hard day.

The problem is that most recliners simply weren’t built with big guys in mind.

With their plush cushions and padded arm rests, regular recliners are often too narrow for big men to comfortably fit into.

Making matters worse, most recliners don’t have a very heavy weight limit, either:

For big fellas like me, it can be difficult (not to mention annoying) to find a heavy-duty recliner with a high weight capacity.

Fortunately for big people who just want to stretch out in the living room, the search may be hard, but it’s not hopeless.

The good news is that quite a few companies have entered the oversized recliner market, and today there are a number of big and tall recliners that offer extra comfort and support for large men (and heavy people of all genders).

To help you find a high-quality recliner that fits the bill, in this post I’ve rounded more than a dozen of the most comfortable, supportive and all around best big man recliners on the market.

How We Created This List

Weight Capacity & Size Dimensions

Comfort &
Quality Features

User Reviews & Ratings

In assessing the best chairs for big and tall guys, the first (and most obvious) criteria we assessed were size and weight capacities.

Each of the chairs we selected has a weight capacity of 300 lb or more, and most are at least 40″ wide (although there are a couple exceptions).

After selecting for size and weight, we then looked at the additional comfort, quality and style features each chair offers, and did a deep dive into user reviews to find out what real people think of each chair, and get a sense of the value-for-money ratio each one offers.

Breaking Down the Best Big Man Recliners on the Market

Overall Best Rated Recliner for Big and Tall Man ↓

4.1 Stars | 1,1683 Reviews

Specs:
  • Dimensions: 40” W, 43” H, 43” D
  • Weight Capacity: Not Provided
Features:
  • Material: Polyester
  • Color Options: 3
Why We Like It:

Ashley Homestore sells a few different styles of chairs that fit big and tall people, but the Ludden rocking chair is the best reviewed option for big guys who want something plush, comfortable and supportive.

A semi-soft foam cushion core provides enough support and durability to handle a big man’s body weight, while the pillow-top arms give you an added degree of padding that will keep you comfortable for a (damn) long time.

Why Some Might Not:

This model is only available in polyester, unfortunately.

So it doesn’t have quite the same visual pop as some of the nicer leather options listed below (but the flip side is that it’s quite a bit cheaper, coming in at less than $500).

Best Recliner For Big And Tall With Heat And Massage ↓

Southern Motion Hercules Big Man’s Massage Recliner

Southern Motion Hercules Big Man’s Massage Recliner
User Reviews:

4.5 Stars | 24 Reviews

Specs:
  • Dimensions: 41” W, 43” H, 42” D
  • Weight Capacity: 400 lb
Features:
  • Material: Genuine Top Grain Leather
  • Color Options: 4
Why We Like It:

Southern Motion’s massaging Hercules model is almost like the BMW of big man chairs.

Custom-made with big men in mind, it comes in four different colors and has a seating area that’s 23 inches wide, which will accommodate big men of (just about) all shapes and sizes.

And with a seat height of 43 inches and total length of 72 inches when in the fully reclined position, it’s long enough to accommodate a tall person.

Plus it’s got a heavy frame to support our, well, heavy frames:

Its hardwood seat box is double-dowelled and screwed, and further reinforced with steel corner braces and a mechanism rated to a maximum weight capacity of 400 lbs.

But while the size is certainly right, the added bonus here is that it comes with heat and massage functionality in addition to power recline and lumbar support, all of which make it both comfortable and convenient.

Why Some Might Not:

There really aren’t many drawbacks to this one, but massage chairs tend to be more expensive than standard recliners, so one potential hang up for some might be the price.

In my opinion the price-for-value ratio here still makes it an excellent choice because it comes with so many additional features, including four genuine leather colors and the massage and heat functionality.

But if you’re on a tight budget, this might not be the right recliner for you.

Best Leather Recliner For Big And Tall People ↓

Milladore Leather Power Recliner

Milladore Leather Power Recliner
User Reviews:

4.6 Stars | 67 Reviews

Specs:
  • Dimensions: 41” W, 41.5” H, 40.5” D
  • Weight Capacity: 350 lb
Features:
  • Material: Genuine Top Grain Leather
  • Color Options: 2
Why We Like It:

A lot of the best heavy duty recliners come in either polyester upholstery or an unspecified type of leather, which makes genuine leather models like this one from Lark Manor (and the Hercules model above) rare.

In addition to the high-quality leather, it’s got enough seat width, height and depth to accommodate most big and tall men, and soft paddings that make it a comfortable recliner for everyday use.

It uses a push button on the side to control the reclining mechanism, so you don’t have to fiddle with a remote control, and has a USB port you can use as a power source for your phone or tablet.

Why Some Might Not:

This doesn’t have as many extra features as the Hercules model above (i.e. no heat or massage functionality), and only comes in two colors, as opposed to the Herc’s four.

Best Wall Recliner for Big and Tall People ↓

Excel Power Headrest Chair 1/2 Recliner

Southern Motion Excel Power Recliner
User Reviews:

4.1 Stars | 23 Reviews

Specs:
  • Dimensions: 46″ W, 42″ H, 39″ D
  • Weight Capacity: 350 lb
Features:
  • Material: Availabe in Genuine Leather, Faux Leather or Polyester
  • Color Options: 13
Why We Like It:

Another great option from Southern Motion, the Excel has a more contemporary design than some of the other recliners on this list.

It’s arguably not only one of the best heavy duty recliners, but one of the best-looking, with the widest range of upholstery options that we’ve found (by far).

With padded, polyfoam cushions, and a unique center cushion in the back, it’s a great option if you’re looking for the kind of home theater seating that you can settle into for a long period of time.

Why Some Might Not:

It’s a wall hugger, which means even the furthest-back recline position doesn’t go as far back as a standard reclining chair.

That makes it a good option if you don’t have ample space, but if you’re looking for a lay-flat recliner or something similar, this one won’t work.

Best Power Lift Recliner for Big and Tall People ↓

CANMOV Power Lift Recliner

Power Lift Recliner
User Reviews:

4.1 Stars | 518 Reviews

Specs:
  • Dimensions: 42″ W, 43 H”, 40″ D
  • Weight Capacity: 350 lb
Features:
  • Material: Faux Leather
  • Color Options: 2
Why We Like It:

Power lift recliners are often marketed toward those with limited mobility because they can be tilted forward to help you get back to a standing position.

But even if you don’t need a power lift chair, this model has a number of unique features that make it worth considering for bigger and taller people, including a wide seat and heavy duty frame.

It also comes with remote-control-powered massage and heating functionality, with eight individual vibration points targeting your back, lumbar, thighs and legs.

Why Some Might Not:

Power-lifts are a lot heavier than a typical La-Z-Boy recliner, especially big and tall power lift chairs like this one.

It ships in three separate boxes, which should make receiving and assembling it at home easier, but if you decide to order an extra-large power lift chair online, make sure you’ve got someone at home who’s big and strong enough to assemble it.

Best Sectional Recliner Couch For Big And Tall People

Donnivin Reversible Reclining Corner Sectional

Donnivin Reversible Reclining Corner Sectional
User Reviews:

4.7 Stars | 45 Reviews

Specs:
  • Dimensions: 108” W, 37.5” H, 37.5” D
  • Weight Capacity: 300 lb (this must be per seat, though it’s not specified in the listing)
Features:
  • Material: Faux Leather
  • Color Options: 2
Why We Like It:

If you’ve got a whole family of big and tall folks and want one piece of furniture that can seat all of them, this sectional from Latitude Run is probably your best option.

Reclining sofas are great because they essentially squeeze four or five big-and-tall chairs into one connected piece, which helps you save space (not to mention money) if you don’t have enough room for that many separate chairs.

This one includes a manual recliner on either end, comes in two different colors and has four cup holders built right into it.

Why Some Might Not:

While there’s enough room to seat four people comfortably (or five if you squeeze), only the two end spots are recliners, so not everyone will be able to kick back and put their feet up.

The Best of the Rest

The recliners listed above represent our top pick in each category, but they’re not the only ones worth considering.

Below we’ve included a few more solid options that could be a good fit for big and tall folks.

Abbyson Living Top Grain Leather Dual Power Recliner

Abbyson Living Dual Power Recliner
User Reviews:

5 Stars | 2 Reviews

Specs:
  • Dimensions: 38” W, 40.5” H, 38” D
  • Weight Capacity: Not Provided
Features:
  • Material: Top Grain Leather
  • Color Options: 2
Why We Like It:

The Abbyson takes up slightly less square feet than the models above, but still offers a 23-inch wide seating area.

It’s another great choice for anyone who needs a heavy-duty chair, but doesn’t have a lot of extra space.

In addition to a slightly more compact design, it boasts 2.2 high density foam seat cushions, easy-to-use push buttons on the side, and additional lumbar cushions in the back rest to provide support for those with lower back pain.

Why Some Might Not:

With a fully reclined length of just 62 inches, it’s probably not the best option for really tall men, but will work well for heavy-set folks who aren’t as tall.

Southern Motion Hercules Big Man’s Recliner

(Non-Massage)

Southern Motion Hercules Big Man's Recliner
User Reviews:

3.9 Stars | 18 Reviews

Specs:
  • Dimensions: 41” W, 43” H, 42” D
  • Weight Capacity: 450 lb
Features:
  • Material: Polyester
  • Color Options: 9
Why We Like It:

Coming in quite a bit behind its massage-enabled cousin above, Southern Motion also makes a Hercules model without the heat and massage functionality.

It’s got the same dimensions, heavy-duty frame and comfortable polyfoam cushions as the model above, and a weight capacity that’s actually 50 pounds heavier, all of which earn it a place among our top picks.

Why Some Might Not:

Once you take away both the leather and the massage/heat capability, the Herc isn’t as appealing as the Milladore model above, which doesn’t have the massage functionality but at least as the top-grain genuine leather.

Copper Grove Mudiyah 2-tone Chocolate Gliding Recliner

Copper Grove Mudiyah 2-tone Chocolate Gliding Recliner
User Reviews:

4.2 Stars | 72 Reviews

Specs:
  • Dimensions: 42′ W, 41″ H, 39″ D
  • Weight Capacity: Not Provided
Features:
  • Material: Velvet
  • Color Options: 1
Why We Like It:

This well-reviewed model from Copper Grove has the kind of plush padding and cushioning that feels great to sink into after a long day.

It’s got a manual recline function, which makes it hard to compete with some of the best power recliners, but the good thing about manual chairs is that you’ll still be able to recline during a power outage.

Why Some Might Not:

The weight capacity for this one isn’t specified, but it only has a wooden frame, as opposed to the stronger steel frame of some of the models listed above, so it’s probably not the best choice for really heavy folks.

LeatherSoft Rocker Recliner

LeatherSoft Rocker Recliner
User Reviews:

3.4 Stars | 440 Reviews

Specs:
  • Dimensions: 43″ W, 40″ D, 39″ H
  • Weight Capacity: 300 lb
Features:
  • Material: Leather
  • Color Options: 2
Why We Like It:

Sturdy, stylish and soft, this manual recliner from Leathersoft combines a handsome, modern style with plenty of padding and comfort.

Its thick, bustle-back cushions provide a decent amount of back and neck support, while the leather upholstery comes in a rich chocolate brown color.

Why Some Might Not:

This is another manual recliner, and it’s fairly bare bones.

While it looks good and the size is pretty good for someone with a larger body type, it doesn’t have any of the great features (i.e. power recline, massage functionality) that can help a chair stand out.

Signature Design by Ashley Yandel Upholstered Power Lift Recliner

Signature Design by Ashley Yandel Upholstered Power Lift Recliner
User Reviews:

4.3 Stars | 2,487 Reviews

Specs:
  • Dimensions: 35″W, 44″ H, 40″D
  • Weight Capacity: Not Provided
Features:
  • Material: Leather
  • Color Options: 2
Why We Like It:

This power lift chair from Ashley Furniture is well reviewed and has a lot going for it, including a height of 44 inches that makes it tall enough to accommodate people with long legs.

Why Some Might Not:

At only 35 inches wide it’s actually pretty narrow compared to theo ther chairs on this list, so while it may work well for tall guys, it’s probably not the best bet for bigger/wider fellas.

ANJ Oversized Swivel Rocker Recliner

ANJ recliner
User Reviews:

4.2 Stars | 62 Reviews

Specs:
  • Dimensions: 41″ W, 40″ H, 28″ D
  • Weight Capacity: 350 lb
Features:
  • Material: “Treated Upholstery”
  • Color Options: 3
Why We Like It:

This is an attractive plush rocker with some great features, including heating and massage functions, and at under $400, the price is suitable for almost any budget.

Plus it canswivel 360 degrees, giving it the convenience and function of an office chair with the comfort of a recliner.

Why Some Might Not:

This is the only recliner on our list to list its fabric as “treated upholstery.” It doesn’t specify exactly type of fabric it actually is, which is suspicious, especially considering how low the price point is.

With that said, if you’re on a really tight budget but don’t wan to miss out on the massage functionality, it could be worth trying, especially since it’s on Amazon and you can get free shipping and returns if you have Prime.

Gannon Reclining Glider Club Chair

Gannon Reclining Glider Club Chair
User Reviews:

4 Stars | 480 Reviews

Specs:
  • Dimensions: 42.5” W, 41” H, 38.5” D
  • Weight Capacity: 300 lb
Features:
  • Material: Polyester
  • Color Options: 2
Why We Like It:

This plush manual recliner from Christopher Knight home offers both convenience and comfort.

It comes in two different colors – dark brown or a bluish steel gray – and has two cup holders in front of each of the plush, well padded pillow top armrests.

As a manual recliner, it lacks the electronic bells and whistles, but it’s a well padded and plush chair that you can settle into for a long period of time, and the cup holders make it great for a home theater.

Why Some Might Not:

This one offers two different sizes to choose from, but each one is a little limiting for big men.

You can either get a wide version of the chair that’s 42.5″ wide and about 39″ deep, or you can reverse those two measurements and get a narrower, deeper chair that’s 39″ wide and 42.5″ deep.

Unfortunately, they don’t seem to offer a maximalist version that’s both 42.5″ wide and 42.5″ deep, which would be better for really big guys.

Christopher Knight Home Gavin Bonded Leather Glider Recliner

Christopher Knight Home PU Leather Glider Recliner
User Reviews:

4 Stars | 228 Reviews

Specs:
  • Dimensions: 40.25″ W, 39.75″ H, 38.75″ D
  • Weight Capacity: 300 lb
Features:
  • Material: Leather
  • Color Options: 1
Why We Like It:

This faux leather glider from Christopher Knight is about as stately and throne-like as a recliner can get.

It’s got thick, plush cushions that provide plenty of comfort, and contrast stitching that stands out from the rich brown of the polyurethane leather.

In addition, the metallic upholstery studs on the front of the arm rest lend it a sophisticated and upscale vibe that allows it to combine comfort and class in equal measure.

Why Some Might Not:

This one uses bonded leather, which is a much cheaper form of leather, which some people don’t consider leather at all.

It’s made by taking scraps of real leather and bonding them together, so neither the quality nor durability are as good as genuine leather.
