Home decor enthusiasts can certainly be forgiven for looking for some other go-to furniture stores like Pottery Barn:
While it’s been a stalwart for decades now, it definitely has its ups and downs.
On the one hand, Pottery Barn’s furniture is well made and fairly stylish, their showrooms are all over the place and easy to find, and their website is pretty comprehensive and easy to use.
On the other hand, their aesthetic is a little limited, as is their return window (you only have 30 days to decide if you want to keep the furniture), and they don’t offer free shipping, unlike some other home furnishing brands.
And while the quality is high, it can be pricey, and you can often find equally stylish furniture for much less elsewhere.
(Plus, if Phoebe finds out you got your apothecary table at Pottery Barn, she’ll be super pissed…)
The good news is that, while hitting that sweet spot between great pieces and good prices can be tricky, you don’t have to look very far to find some viable Pottery Barn alternatives.

Crate & Barrel stores are some of Pottery Barn’s closest competitors when it comes to homewares, and for good reason:
They have a great selection of high-quality pieces, decent (though not exactly cheap) prices, a design aesthetic that’s clean, classy and tasteful, and brick and mortar stores in various locations across the United States.
It’s one of my favorite places to buy everything from big-ticket furniture items to small kitchen tools and gadgets.
West Elm
Another example of a close PB competitor, West Elm is one of the best places to turn for a wide selection of furniture and homeware, most of which is in line with the brand’s mid century styles.
It’s probably one of the most expensive stores on this list, and offers designs that are upscale, classy, sophisticated and unimpeachable.
The Citizenry
The Citizenry is a stylish furniture store that was founded with a feel-good philosophy at its core:
That homes should be reflections of the journeys we take.
As a result, they carry unique collections of furniture and home decor pieces sourced from all over the world, meaning that their aesthetic goes quite a bit further than Pottery Barn’s down-home design tastes.
Joss & Main
Joss & Main is an online store whose aesthetic mixes the contemporary with the classic for a look that’s modern and hip but still feels timeless.
It also happens to be a division of Wayfair, so while their base prices aren’t far off from PB, they have a pretty big sale section where you can often find some great deals on furniture and stylish home decor.
Burrow
One of the coolest stores like Pottery Barn (at least in the opinion of this humble style blogger), Burrow has a distinctly clean and cool aesthetic that I would describe as “midcentury modern, but heavy on the modern.”
Both their prices and quality rival Pottery Barn’s, but their styles feel fresher to me — more cool and modern than classic or timeless.
Terrain
As their name (sort of) suggests, Terrain takes their inspiration from the earth and specializes in products that are inspired by plants and the planet’s natural greenery.
Their prices are comparable to Pottery Barn’s, and their styles are fairly similar, though Terrain’s tend to have slightly more of an eco-friendly vibe, and they’re more likely to use organic materials.
Lulu and Georgia
In addition to quality furniture, one thing that a lot of stores like Pottery Barn have in common is a penchant for midcentury modern design, which Lulu & Georgia has in spades.
Where they differ from Pottery Barn is in their emphasis on colorful pieces that feel more 1960s than 1950s.
Put it this way:

HD Buttercup

So no matter what your tastes, you’ll likely find something that suits you.
Anthropologie
Anthropologie started as a women’s wear store that focused on fashion-forward bohemian styles, and took a similar approach when it branched into furniture and home decor a few years back.
While their design philosophy is different from Pottery Barn’s, the quality of their pieces is comparable, as is their pricing.
AllModern
Another subsidiary of Wayfair, AllModern was originally an online-only furniture retailer, but recently opened a couple of brick-and-mortar locations.
Like Pottery Barn, they carry a wide selection of both home decor and big-ticket furniture pieces, but with a modern aesthetic (hence the name).
That said, they also carry a wide enough variety that you can find styles across pretty much the whole design spectrum, which makes them a good PB alternative.
